#GetOutMore this April!
This event is one of loads of events taking place over the same weekend! Check out all the events over the weekend of 4-6 April 2025: OutdoorLads.events/APR25. Great for new and regular members!
Waitlist: This event is fully booked, however, if you'd like to attend, add yourself to the waitlist, places often become available closer to the date, and chances are you may still get a place.
Join Alex for this 10-mile wander across the edge of the Fens.
We will meet outside Cambridge North station and head roughly northwards along the Western bank of the River Cam as it meanders its way to the village of Waterbeach. We will continue slightly beyond Waterbeach to Bottisham Lock where we will cross to the Eastern side.
Our route then takes us back southwards across open fields and through the village of Horningsea. We will meet the river again which will lead us to the village of Fen Ditton where we will stop for a drink at The Plough pub with its large riverside beer garden.
Finally we will head past the village church and across Ditton Meadows back into Cambridge and to the station.
Don't waste that space!
Spring always means lots of new and existing members excited to be getting back out more. Please only book if you know you can make it. If your plans change please free up the space for someone else.
New members
Please feel free to join this as your first OutdoorLads event. If you have any questions then feel free to message me, or go to the "My First Event" section under "About Us".
Is it dog friendly?
Dogs are welcome but please be aware not all members are as fond of dogs as you.

What to bring
Water: bring at least two litres.
Medicines: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor ailments etc.
Day rucksack: typically 20-30 litres, they are comfortable to wear and allow you to use your arms freely
Boots: waterproof and breathable and designed for hiking, trainers are OK if the ground is dry and there’s little chance of rain.
Gaiters: recommended for wet weather or boggy conditions.
Socks: proper walking socks will keep your feet dry and help prevent blisters.
Layered clothing: lets you quickly adapt to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (vest or t-shirt) and a mid layer (a micro fleece or shirt) and in cooler weather add an outer layer (a windproof jacket or thick fleece).
Trousers: jeans are not ideal as they become heavy and cold in the rain. Breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry and shorts are convenient for warm days.
Waterproof jacket: essential when hiking in all but the calmest of weather. Breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry.
Hat or cap: stay warm in winter and shaded in summer.
Sunglasses: recommended just in case at any time of year
Sun cream: the sun can be unexpectedly fierce so please ensure you protect yourself.
Food & drink
We will stop for lunch en route so please bring a packed lunch. There is a Costa and a Coop at Cambridge North station where you can pick up some lunch but not much else.
