Explore the colourful City of Lincoln with this easy circular walk around the city and soak up a 1,000 years of history starting with a bird's-eye view of Lincolnshire from the Cathedral's mighty Tower!

Meeting at the Cathedral the first 14 members to sign up to this event will be rewarded with a booked tour of Lincoln Cathedral's central tower. This is a climb of 338 steps, we will see Tom's huge bell-end chime. At the roof-top of the tower we will have an amazing 360° panorama of the city. On a clear day you can see the whole of Lincolnshire and it should look stunning (albeit windy) painted in autumnal colours...

The combined entry ticket for Lincoln Cathedral and Castle (and tower tour) will cost £16 and includes a FREE RETURN VISIT within 6 months of purchase. (A castle only ticket is £13.50) This does give you various payment options if you are not able to attend the Cathedral Tower tour, which is unfortunately limited to 14 people.

If you are not one of the first 14 attendees who signed up to the list, our tower tour finishes at 11.30am. You may meet us outside the Cathedral at 11.30am and from there we will go for a circular walk around the City of Lincoln, finishing at the Castle.

You can also book onto the Public Tower Tour at 2.30pm by calling the Cathedral on 01522 561600. There are plenty places still available (14) but these must be paid in full over the phone to guarantee you a place. If you leave this until the day then you may loose out.

You would need to pay £4 plus the cost of the Castle and Cathedral joint ticket £16 if you are doing everything with us. Total £20.

From 11.30pm our leisurely 4 mile city tour takes us through the Aboretum where we could have a fun race to the centre of the maze, I'll try not to lose more than 10% of you! Then we will head towards Brayford Pool and follow Foss Dyke Canal on a small circuit around West Common. You will see Ellis windmill before we are greeted by historic Lincoln Castle which will be our picnic lunch stop in the Castle grounds.

Beware of fully armoured Roman soldiers who will drill and demonstrate a variety of weapons under the instruction of the Centurion in the grounds. In the likely event that you are injured, a Roman surgeon is on hand who you can pay a visit for all your battlefield injuries. I doubt he does free massages though.

After our lunch we can take the medieval castle wall walk with complete 360° views of the city. This will be followed by a visit to the Victorian Prison and dungeons. You can then immerse yourself in the Magna Carta story, the iconic charter that changed the course of history with a widescreen cinema presentation. The original manuscript is normally on display in the Castle Vault but it is closed for conservation until next year.

Finally, we cwill venture out of the castle walls to find a nice pub and enjoy a refreshing jar of mead before your safe onward journeys home.

Ultimately this is going to be an easy relaxed day of fun and medieval frollocks with plenty photo opportunities.

Please note this event is not dog friendly as dog owners would be excluded from the Castle grounds, the Cathedral and the pub, leaving you with just a very short walk of about 60 minutes.

ALL MEMBERS! If you want to explore the Cathedral properly inside then please come early to buy your £16 combination ticket so that you have time to explore it and light a candle, etc, before we all meet at 10.15am. If you are not on the morning tour you can still arrve early to explore the lower level, the gift shop, and eat some heavenly cake in the cafe, sipping tea while you wait eagerly for us to return. Hmm, that actually sounds better than 338 steps!
