Suffolk in Spring Weekend at Blaxhall (39179)

Event Overview

The small village of Blaxhall is nestled in the South-east corner of Suffolk. Its low lying and flat topography offers easy walking routes and stunning wide open skies. Just seven miles from the coast at Aldeburgh there's much to see and do.

Framlingham Castle, Sutton Hoo, Minsmere Nature Reserve, The Snape Maltings Concert Hall, Orford Castle and Rendlesham Forest are all close by.  Fascinatingly, in late December 1980 there were a number of reported UFO sightings at Rendlesham. Since then it's been known as “Britain’s Roswell”. Possibly even more extraordinary is the local legend that the Blaxhall Stone, a large stone located ...

Possibly even more extraordinary is the local legend that the Blaxhall Stone, a large stone located at Stone Farm, has been constantly increasing in size since it was dug up in the 19th century!

The hostel sits on the edge of the Suffolk Sandlings, a Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, one of the most important areas for wildlife in the whole of Britain. YHA Blaxhall makes a great base for exploring everything that the Suffolk coast has to offer. So why not join us and enjoy this wonderful countryside and who knows, maybe some more tales of the unexpected.

What to Bring

As this is a Youth Hostel all bedding will be supplied, but you will need to bring your own towel, your washing kit and clothes to wear about the hostel. Non essentials include any personal Emergency Equipment or medical supplies and map/compass if you’d just like to know where you are.

How to get there

By Car: Leave the A12 at the Wickham Market and Orford (B1078) exit. Follow the signs for Orford then after Campsea Ashe follow the YHA signs.

By Bicycle: Best to avoid the busy A12! The National Cycle Route 1 passes close to the hostel and uses quiet lanes.

By Public Transport: There are regular trains from Ipswich to Wickham Market which is 3.2 miles from Blaxhall. There is no bus service to Blaxhall and taxis from Wickham Market would need to be pre-booked with a local firm. You can however get off at Woodbridge where there is a taxi rank outside the station - approx cost to Blaxhall £14.
