This walk explores this unspoilt and rural part of Dorset starting and ending in the hilltop town of Shaftesbury - a place worth visiting in its own right.
We will start off by surveying the scenery of the walk from the famous viewpoint of Gold Hill, a steep cobbled street made famous in the 'Hovis Advert' Our route then takes us out of town across the valley to Melbury Hill and Beacon which at 263m should afford some fine views. Continuing through some open downland we will come to the village of Ludwell which has a potential pub stop as well as watercress beds. The last part of the day follows the watercourse past a big private school and back into town.
Food & drink
