Outdoor climbing at Hen Cloud and The Roaches, Staffordshire
9 people attending
0 places left
Join us for a day's climbing at The Roaches, one of the best gritstone outcrops in the western peak district. The crag has quality routes at all grades (about 800 routes in total) and great views out across the Staffordshire moors. The event is suitable for those starting off outdoors as well as those with some outdoor climbing experience already.
To attend this event you will have some climbing experience (either indoors or outdoors, preferably with Outdoorlads) and you will be competent with tying in with a figure 8 knot and belaying, including (preferably) lead belaying. If you are unsure whether you have the appropriate experience feel free to send me a message.
When climbing outdoors each leader can climb with, at most, two less experienced climbers. For that reason, the number of places on this event may need to be revised up or down nearer to the time, depending on the availability of leaders. I will keep everyone registered on the event informed of any changes.
The plan will be to meet at the nearby cafe at 10:30am ready for a start at 10:45am. From the cafe it is a short walk to the crag. If there is wet weather the event may be cancelled.
Further information about the climbs at The Roaches can be found at the ukclimbing.com pages for the three sections of the crag:

What to bring
Bring suitable warm outdoor clothing. We will probably climb on the Upper Tier and Skyline areas of the crag as they are most likely to be dry at this early stage in the climbing season but they can be quite exposed to the wind. It is wise to bring some gloves to warm your hands up whilst you are not climbing.
For climbing, you will need to bring a harness, a helmet and (preferably) a pair of climbing shoes. Outdoorlads has some harnesses and helmets we can lend out if you message the event leader in advance.
Food & drink
You will need a packed lunch, food and drink to keep you refreshed for the entire day.
