Lets meet outside the pub – The Healey, as the track down into Healey Dell whilst driveable is pretty uneven unless you have a 4x4 – plus it’s a nice stroll.
We then ascend up onto the Moors taking the Pennine Way to Top of Pike; with fantastic views over Rochdale and beyond. Soon its as though we are leaving civilization far behind; journeying on the old pack road with the majestic Scouts Moor wind farm the only reminder of the modern world.
Following the Rossendale Way, we then head back downhill, past quarries and hidden woods until we are once again in Healey Dell but now at the top end where the cascades, beautiful waterfalls and viaducts span the valley. Following the River Spodden we trace our way back, ready for a well earned pint and festive cheer.
