Early Autumn Whisky Mountain Retreat (33469)
Located in the lower slopes of the Carneddau Mountains, YHA Rowen is a traditional stone farmhouse in the Conwy Valley with stunning views of open countryside.
Join us on a mountain walk with stunning views of countryside and coastline, and then kick off your boots and relax in the hostel’s gardens with beautiful panoramic views of the valley, or warm your toes in front of an open fire.
And, if you would like to imbibe some perfect, contemplative liquid gold, there will be a chance to bring along your favourite whisky and participate in a joint whisky tasting experience during this weekend.
What to bring
You will just need to bring the following:
- good walking boots
- full outdoor walking gear including breathable base layer, mid layer, fleece and waterproofs and rucksack with rain cover. The area is mountanous and it could be very windy, rainy, and freezing cold on the summits so having enough layers with you is essential at this time of year
- hat and 2 pairs of gloves
- walking poles if you have them
- Bring sandwiches for the walk on saturday
- a towel and washkit and bring any medication you require
- comfortable clothes for the hostel
- buffet food contribution for Friday - something hearty to feed 2 to 3 people
- Ear plugs and a headtorch care also essential at night
- Bring your camera!
Bedding is provided. Saturday's breakfast, evening meal and Sunday's breakfast are also included. You can also help yourself to teas and coffees throughout the weekend. Please bring any other dirnks you wish to consume during the weekend - such as a half bottle of of single malt whisky, if you wish to take part in some whisky tasting with others.
Meeting & Times
What's going to happen
Friday night: We could have an Welsh inspired buffet tea This will be followed by a welcome meeting.
Saturday breakfast: Cereals, toast and jam, tea and coffee are included.
Saturday daytime: We'll head out on a full day's hike. Depending on the weather and ability of the group this could be into the mountains for some great views, or a lower level walk in the valley enjoying the countryside. You will need to bring some sandwiches.
Saturday night: Relax, socialise & chill out while you enjoy the sunset from the garden. Dinner is included in the event price and my events usually feature an alcoholic pudding to die for. You may participate in a whisky tasting experience, or you may relax in front of the open fire with some music.
Sunday breakfast: Cereals, toast and jam, tea and coffee are included.
Sunday daytime: You are either free to go home or join in a shorter, more leisurely walk or other activity in the local area rounded off with a pub meal.
Bursting with character this recently refurbished property retains its traditional Welsh Hill farmhouse style whilst the interior has been transformed to provide modern, contemporary and comfortable accommodation.
Located 830 ft. above the Conwy Valley, you can enjoy unrivalled views of the Conwy valley, the mountains of Snowdonia National Park and the nearby Conwy estuary
The dining room has an open fire and seating for 20 people. There is also a small, comfortable lounge with open fire and plenty of seating.
There are 3 showers and 4 toilets. Please bring your own towels.
The hostel has 20 beds arranged in 1x2, 1x4, 1x6 and 1x8 bed rooms.
All bed linen is provided and rooms will be allocated on arrival.
There are night storage heaters throughout the building and good mobile phone reception.
There is a large garden area with seating, picnic table and views over the Conwy Valley. Outdoor Camp fire location situated on lower terrace (wood not provided).
