Danbury and Lingwood Commons were given to the National Trust in 1953 by the Lord of the Manor, Mr FB Plumtree. The Commons at that time were an overgrown mosaic of habitats of different heights and ages: grass, heath, scrub, scrub-woodland coppice and a wetland area with ponds.
Our route will take as across Lingwood Common and into Blakes Wood. From there we continue east in a loop that will bring us to The Anchor at Runsell Green for much needed refreshments. We'll then continue on to cross Danbury Common discovering open heathland, wooded glades, wetland and all the wildlife that thrive in the variety of habitats before finishing back at our starting point, The Griffin, for an end of walk drink or two.
Note: This is a dog friendly route.
Food & drink
A packed lunch, plenty of water and snacks are essential today. We won't be passing any shops or pubs along the route as this walk will take you off the beaten track. There is a Tesco Express at Chelmsford Bus Station if you need to grab something en-route.
At the end of the walk however, we will be finishing at a pub to stop for a drink or two.
