Come join us as we round off our series of summer evening walks with a short stroll around Glasgow's newest woodland park on the banks of the River Clyde.
Cuningar Loop, so called because it is almost completely enclosed by a meander in the river, was originally the site of reservoirs supplying Glasgow's water in the 19th Century, before it was turned over to quarrying and mining and finally used as a landfill site for building rubble from the old Gorbals tenements when they were demolished to make way for high-rise in the 1960 (which have now mostly also gone).
Situated close to the site of the 2014 Commonwealth Games Village, the Forestry Commission for Scotland took over the site and developed it into a Country Park, with attractions such as a short mountain bike course and bouldering rocks.
What to bring
As this is a short urban walk, no special equipment is required. But wear shoes or trainers that you don't mind getting wet or muddy and bring waterproofs in case of inclement weather.
Food & drink
Afterwards we can retire to the local Wetherspoons in Rutherglen for some drinks and food to round off the evening.
