Join Stephen on a 9 mile walk starting in the small village of Orton in Cumbria
This is a hidden gem just off the M6 at Tebay and in the newly extended Yorkshire Dales National Park (Yes it's in Cumbria!)
We will be walking on the limestone pavements above Orton for a lot of the route and will be a good test for all those who did geology at school
Highlights of the walk will be -
• Wandering through the village then up onto the hills
• Walking on the limestone pavements and we will be walking on the clints (limestone blocks) and across the grykes (gaps between the blocks)
• We will try and find the illusive erratic called the Thunder Stone , which was deposited by a glacier after the last ice age.
• We will visit the stone remains of an ancient farmstead with views across the Howgills and Pennines
• We will walk down into the valley below to Orton Stone Circle
• Then back into Orton and if we get back in time we can visit the Kennedy's Chocolate shop and café for post walk drinks and food
