cyflymder a thirwedd

Bydd llwybr beicio mynydd "glas" yn eithaf hamddenol gydag adrannau o "goch". Mae angen ffitrwydd personol rhesymol arnoch ar gyfer y digwyddiad hwn gan fod llawer o bellter i'w gwmpasu, ond mae'n addas ar gyfer beicwyr mynydd "hamdden". Yn fyr, bydd unrhyw un sydd â mwy na 20km o beicio heb unrhyw anhawster yn gallu cwblhau'r daith hon yn ddiweddar.

Saesneg:

A 25km bimble around the Goyt Valley from Buxton train station.  Described as “mountain biking lite” in the Mountain Biking True Grit Trails book, this route is a pleasant mix of road and track in the honorary dark peak area.

There is an optional 15km additional loop depending on the fitness of the group.

There is a Saturday road cycle if you dabble in the world of both mountain and road biking.

Will Allaway, (your leader under assessment) will be staying at Staden Grange Campsite on the Saturday night, let him know if staying over.

There will be approx 827m of ascent.

Pace and Terrain

This will be a fairly relaxed “blue” mountain biking route with sections of “red”.  You do need reasonable personal fitness for this event as there is a fair distance to cover, but it suitable for “leisure” mountain bikers.  Broadly, anyone who has recently cycled over 20 km without too much difficulty will be able to complete this ride.

What to bring

Apart from your bike remember the following:.

  1. Puncture repair kit (or better still a spare inner tube) and tyre levers. Also any special tools that your bike needs.
  2. Food - bring small snacks such as chocolate bars and energy foods.
  3. A cycling bottle attached to your bike and plenty of water (minimum 2lts)
  4. Eye protection - impact from a bee, grit or even a fly at speed is extremely unpleasant, sunglasses may do if not made of glass and not too shaded.
  5. Clothing: choose suitable clothes and footwear for the weather forecast and time of year. You will be exercising so lightweight layered clothing is best. Shorts are best even in rain, as they allow free movement of your legs. Jeans are useless if it rains but tracksuit bottoms need to be not too baggy or they may snag in the chain and cause an accident. You'll need trainers or similar with grippy soles for standard pedals.
  6. Cyclist's Helmet - Outdoorlads policy asks you to wear a helmet events.
  7. Bag you will need a small day-sack (or panniers on your own bike) to carry essential clothing, water and an emergency snack.

Food & Drink

There will be time for tea and cake on route, but make sure you have enough food to keep you going in case the venues are closed.

A minimum of 2 litres of water should be carried on the ride.
