The Mawddach trail is one of the UK's most beautiful railway walks. Commencing in the market town of Dolgellau on the southern fringes of the Snowdonia National park this traffic free and almost hill free walk follows the former Dolgellau to Barmouth branch line along the banks of the stunning Mawddach Estuary.
Stunning views are aplenty right from the start to the very end. Throughout this easy linear day walk you will have the chance to catch views of Diffwys and the Rhinog Mountains as well as views up the estuary to Y Garn and the Arans. Pretty much the whole of the estuary is listed as a site of special scientific interest, there are two RSPB reserves (Taicynhaeaf and Arthog), and a whole host of historical sites to ponder over as we make our way through this beautiful landscape.
As we reach the end of the walk we are rewarded with the chance to walk over the landmark Barmouth Bridge, which is the longest wooden railway bridge in Britain and offers stunning views into Barmouth and the Mawddach Estuary.
