The Brecon Beacons are a range of Old Red Sandstone peaks, which form the central section of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

A lot of ascent (900 metres) as we take in all 6 main summits of the Brecon Beacons section of the National Park. Doing this in one day in a tough environment, will make it a challenging walk. However if the weather is kind we will have stunning views of both the mountains and the spurs and valleys radiating out from them.

From the Taf Fechan Upper Forest Car Park, we will head up to the Lower Neuadd Reservoir, across the dam and straight into the toughest ascent of the day, which will take us up to the Craig Fan Ddu ridge. We will then follow the ridge to its highest point at Bwlch Duwynt (824 metres). Then it’s a very short descent and ascent to the summit of Corn Du (873m), then a similarly short journey to the highest point in Southern Britain, the summit of Pen y Fan (886m). We then drop a long way, to then climb to the top of Cribyn (795m); another long descent to the pass at the highest point in the Roman Road which links South and mid Wales, followed by a long climb to the top of Fan y Big (719m), then relatively little ascent as we continue on to Bwlch Ddwyallt (754m) and Waun Rydd (769m). During the journey from Corn Du to here we’ll have passed a series of spurs and 4 large valleys heading to the North. Then along the rim of a spectacular hanging valley as we head to Craig y Fan Ddu and finally down to a road followed by a disused railway line back to the car park.

We will spend most of the day at high level with little shelter. You will need some previous experience of summiting  700 metre mountains, be fit and well equipped.

If the weather is poor, the walk will be reduced to 3summits, if the weather is extreme, we will do whatever is safe at low level.
